5-Reps: Trying, Failing, and why you shouldn’t work “on your business”

“The most industry experience per word on the web.”

Happy 5-Reps Friday!

Moving on, here are 2 coaching concepts, 2 business nuggets, and a quote to consider this week.

2 Coaching Concepts

1.

When I was coaching nutrition, I’d do it by having them fill out a food log.

The instructions were simple, I:

  1. Gave them 3 identical pages (the food logs).
  2. Asked them to write in exactly what they ate and drank on two weekdays and one weekend day with the times.
  3. Told them to not worry about measuring anything, but to please self-assess whether it was a small, medium, or large portion.
  4. Said that I wasn’t going to look at their logs until they’ve submitted all three and we’re together.

We looked at their logs together and I asked them what they wanted to change.

That’s all I ever did. It worked well.

2.

Two quick ways to go the extra 10% for your clients:

a) Offer a post-workout snack:

Fruit or protein bars work well. Or, have fun and keep a peanut butter and jelly jar at your gym. Clients drop in change, you make PB & J for them.

b) Have a wall for their business cards

2 Business Nuggets

1.

Stop working “on your business”.

‘Business’ isn’t something to work on.

Break out the components of your business, prioritize them, and work on one thing at a time.

That’s how you get better.

2.

Trying and failing results in the same thing as not trying; so you may as well try.

1 Quote to Consider

“It’s a mistake to try and force things to happen faster than what’s required. You’ll find yourself doing a lot and benefitting little. As the saying goes, ‘you can’t make a baby in one month by getting nine women pregnant’. Good things happen to patient people.”
