Before we begin, an update: Our family has moved from Bali to a small town in the south of Japan called Kamakura. What an insane adjustment. We basically just left a place with no rules where kids roam free to one built upon both structure and rigidity. Anyway, we’ll be here for three months. Calvin and Jaden are in school. Join me on IG to follow along. I’m sharing the journey and reflections mostly in my IG stories.

Hidden Cost Of Blind Consistency: Rethinking How To Form Habits (Forbes)
And finally, here are a few short thoughts this week.
Money

How you spend your time says a lot about you, especially when the two are in conflict.
Health

Exercise is a celebration of what you can do.

“When I ask myself how a person should live, this is the advice I now turn to: Learn to branch out like a tree, to let go like a tree, to weather hardship like a tree, to rise above like a tree, to set down roots like a tree. In a scarred and storm-battered world, we couldn’t hope to find wiser teachers.”

Once you know what you want, figure out the reps. Then it’s simple. You make a commitment to show up and do them. It’s black and white. Binary. Ones and zeroes. Did you do the reps? Or didn’t you. Whatever excuses you have are irrelevant when you look at things through this lens.
Relationships

I told my 8-year old son Calvin how much he impresses me. His resilience, adaptiveness, and the way he makes friends with everybody – kids, adults, non-English speakers. I told him that, as he gets older, he will feel pressure to change.
“Why Daddy?” He asked.
“Because adults care too much what others think of them.” I said. “And that causes them to hide. I hope you stay the way you are.”
Thanks for reading. Hope you’re awesome,
-Jon
