Here are a few short thoughts this week.
Money
1
Tim Ferriss says his book sales are down 56% in a single year. Most authors are panicking. I think it’s the best thing to happen to writing in decades.
For writers, the boring truth is this. Stop trying to be comprehensive. AI wins comprehensively.
Be specific, be human, be the one person who actually lived it.
The authors who survive won’t be the ones who know the most. They’ll be the ones with something only they could say and the balls to say it in a way that’s weird and unique to them.
What I’m about to say goes for anything you do. Not just books:
The more novel your experiences, the more interesting your novel.
Health
1
Lifting weights strengthens your bones.
Lifting weights sharpens your focus.
Lifting weights regulates your hormones.
Lifting weights improves your sleep.
Lifting weights adds years to your life.
The easiest way to improve your brain and body is to lift weights.
2
“Aerobics is the wind, weightlifting is the fire.”
-Dave Draper from Brother Iron, Sister Steel

In the gym, we’re family. When you’re wearing shitty old shorts struggling through a set and see the next guy doing the same, rocking old Reebok’s, sweating through his credit card giveaway t-shirt, you’re equal. When we sweat, when we struggle, we’re equal. The gym is democratizing. There’s an unspoken camaraderie within these walls. Everybody here is making sacrifices today for a better tomorrow. And we all know it and respect the hell out of one another.
Relationships
1
“Surrounded by digital, we now crave experiences that are more tactile and human-centric. We want to interact with goods and services with all our senses, and many of us are willing to pay a premium to do so, even if it is more cumbersome and costly than its digital equivalent.”
-David Sax from The Revenge of Analog
David and I actually went for a paddle yesterday. He texted me at 8:45 am inviting me. I was on my way out of the door to the gym but instead joined him. Doing random stuff in real life with friends is underrated. Oh, and we got tacos after. Obv.
David and I paddle boarding on the Humber River in Toronto.
